McDaniel Tops Marywood for ECAC Championship

Westminster, MD – Top-seed and host McDaniel College defeated second-seeded Marywood University 13-9 on Sunday afternoon to claim the Eastern College Athletic Conference Mid-Atlantic Men's Lacrosse Championship.  The Green Terror end their season with an 11-7 record and an ECAC Title while the Pacers finish the spring with a 10-8 mark, the team's fourth-straight double-digit win season, and the program's best showing in a postseason tournament. 
 
McDaniel took a 1-0 lead at the 9:12 mark of the first quarter before Sam Trill netted the equalizier with 7:04 to play in the opening period with Joe LaBella asssisting on the goal.  The Green Terror countered by scoring the game's next six goals to hold a 7-1 advantage with 2:08 remaining in the second period before Riley Dobel scored for the Pacers of a pass from Greg Nester.  McDaniel scored with 47 seconds left in the frame to hold an 8-2 lead at halftime.

The Green Terror stretched their lead to 12-2 after scoring the first five goals of the third quard, but Marywood closed the period with a 4-1 lead to cut their deficit to 13-6 heading into the final 15 minutes of play.  Dobel scored twice and Labella and Dylan Swope added single tallies during the run while LaBella, Chris Riley, and Ryan Nowell added assists as the Pacers battled back into contention, trailing 13-6 heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

Riley, Dobel, and Marcus Janda scored for Marywood in the fourth quarter, but the Pacers were unable to overcome the seven-goal deficit thet faced heading into the last period.

DJ Rickels led McDaniel with a game-high six points on four gaols and two assists while JS Duke added five points on three goals and two helpers.  Brad Motley earned the win after making nine saves in 48:25 in the Green Terror cage while Ty Wittelsberger made one stop in the final 11:35 in goal for McDaniel. 

Dobel led Marywood's attack with four gaols while Swope (1 goal, 2 assists), LaBella (1 goal, 2 assists), and Riley (1 goal, 1 assists) added multi-point performances for the Pacers.  Taylor Goldson led all players with two caused turnovers while Nester led the squad with five groundballs.  Nicholas Cornella took the loss despite turning in an outstanding, 12-save effort.

McDaniel held a 44-27 advantage in shots for the game and a 44-30 edge in groundballs while winning 19 of the contest's 26 faceoffs.
