Men's Tennis to Open NCAA Play Friday

Indianapolis, IN - Marywood University's men's tennis team, the 2012 Colonial States Athletic Conference Champions, will take on Nichols College in the opening round of of the NCAA National Championship tournament on Friday at Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts.  The Pacers, who are 11-5 on the year, will take on the 17-3 Bison, who earned an automatic bid by winning the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship.  The winner of Friday's match will advance to face host Amherst College, who is 29-2, on Saturday.  The other Second Round game Saturday features The College of New Jersey (11-3) and Vassar College (14-10).

Marywood, the three-time defending CSAC Champions, will be looking to advance past the first round of the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history.  The Pacers fell to the University of Texas-Tyler 5-0 in 2010 and were edged by Farmingdale State College 5-3 last year. 

For Nichols, the Bison are CCC Champions for the fourth time overall but for the first time in 11 seasons.  Nichols has rattled off 16 straight wins and tied a single season record with their 17 wins.  The Pacers, meanwhile, are on a win streak of their own.  After winning their only match of the fall and then dropping five straight contests to start the spring, Marywood has won ten consecutive matches. 

The Pacers and Bison have one common opponent in 2012 in Wheaton College (IL).  Nichols defeated Wheaton 8-1 while Marywood fell to them by a score of 7-2.
