Marywood Shuts Down Cyclones to Advance to Semis

Scranton, PA - Marywood University broke open a 10-all deadlock with five consecutive second half goals to defeat Centenary College 18-15 Saturday in the first round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse tournament. The third-seeded Pacers advance to play at No. 2 Neumann University Wednesday at 4:00 pm. 

The Pacers (7-8 overall) received seven points from Sarah Caughy, who added six goals and an assist. Caughy went 4-for-4 on free-position shots. 

Kathy DiGiacomo tallied three goals and two assists. 
Kimberly Commisso scored five points off four goals and an assist, and led the Pacers with five ground balls and 12 draw controls. Stacy Griffing produced three goals and an assist.

Marywood goalkeeper Amanda Khozouri picked up her first career victory, stopping 13 shots in her second game ever in net.

After Centenary (5-10 overall) scored the first three goals of the game, Marywood responded with three consecutive goals to tie the game at 24:40 in the first. The Cyclones and Pacers traded goals throughout the first half until Michelle Thompson netted her first career goal to put Marywood on top 10-9 going into the break. 

After the Cyclones' Nicole Judd tied the game to start the half, Commisso maneuvered her way to a go-ahead goal 22 seconds later at 26:27. Carly Kliment added another goal 35 seconds later. Commisso capped the run at 15:25 to give the Pacers a 15-10 lead. 

Centenary crawled back in the final minutes with three consecutive goals that put it within two (17-15) at 3:41. Caughy was successful on a free-position shot with 2:44 remaining. 

The Cyclones held a 32-28 advantage in shots. Led by Commisso on the faceoff, Marywood won 60 percent (21-of-35) draw controls. The Pacers committed five more turnovers (19-14) than the Cyclones. Marywood owned a 20-17 margin in ground balls.

Marywood lost to Neumann 13-8 on April 4 in Scranton. The Knights used a seven-goal first half run to oust the Pacers and end its regular season CSAC winning streak.
