Marywood Honors Student-Athletes at Annual Athletic Banquet

Scranton, PA – Marywood University seniors Ryan Jones, Siobhan Blancaflor and Meghin Palmer were named the 2012-13 Male and Female Senior Scholar-Athletes of the Year as Marywood University honored its student-athletes at their annual end of the year Athletic Recognition Ceremony Sunday afternoon on the University's campus.  Jones also took home Male Athlete of the Year honors while Elizabeth Schwab was named the Female Athlete of the Year.  Kelsey Dunn took home two award s as well after being named both the Pacers Club Humanitarian Award winner and the MB Salmon Award winner.
 
Ryan Jones was honored as both the Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Male Athlete of the Year. Arguably the most decorated male athlete in Marywood history, Jones is a two-year captain and four-year First Team All-Conference selection.  He was named the Conference's Men's Soccer player of the year in 2012 and 2011 (co) and was named a NSCAA Academic All-American his senior year, becoming the first male athlete to earn an All-American award in Marywood history.  The all-time assists leader for the men's soccer program with 25 career helpers, Jones is also a four-year CSAC Academic Honor Roll member and a four-year Jewish Sports Review All-American.
 
Elizabeth Schwab was named the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year after an outstanding season in women's cross country.  Schwab finished 64th at NCAA National Championship and led team to 7th place finish at Regionals.  She was named Second Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference in addition to earning CSAC All-Academic Honor Roll accolades.  She won the CSAC Championships in a time of 19:19.8, helping the team to a third consecutive Conference title.  C
 
Siobhan Blancaflor and Meghin Palmer were named the Co-Senior Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year.  A two-time NSCAA All-Region selection in women's soccer, Blancaflor was a two-year captain for the Pacers and a member of the CSAC Academic Honor Roll all four years.  Honored multiple times for both athletic and academic excellence throughout her playing career, Blancaflor leaves Marywood as the all-time assists leader in women's soccer and was twice voted the team's Most Valuable Player in addition to being a four-year All-Conference honoree.  Palmer, one of the most decorated softball players in Marywood history, was a CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-American as a junior and has been named First Team All-Conference every season.  She is the current Marywood record holder for the highest all-time batting average and is a four-year CSAC Academic Honor Roll member.  The 2011 team MVP has numerous other academic and athletic awards and records. 
 
Dunn was named the Pacers Club Humanitarian Award winner and was the recipient of the MB Salmon Award for Dedication.  In 2012, Dunn was Second Team All-Conference and Marywood's representative on the Women's Cross Country CSAC All-Sportsmanship Team. She earned All-Academic Honor Roll accolades all four seasons and in 2012 finished 11th place at the CSAC Championships in a time of 21:45.3 to help team to third consecutive Conference Championship.  She was a First Team All-Conference runner in 2010 and 2011 as well.

Kathryn Morin was named the winner of the Dr. Jane Farr Award for Excellence in Field Hockey.  The award, which is named in honor of the former coach, athletic administrator and retired Chair of Marywood's Health & Physical Education Department, goes annually to a standout field hockey player in recognition of excellence on and off the field of play.  In 2012, Morin was an All-CSAC Honorable Mention selection and named to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. The team leader in goals (7), points (15) and game-winning goals (2, Morin started and played in all 16 games for the Pacers this past fall.
 
The Women's Basketball team was announced as the winners of the “Pacers Cup” award.  The Pacers Cup is a year-long competition between Marywood varsity athletic teams.  The competition awards points for student-athlete attendance at other team's games, team grade point average, and participation and attendance in community service projects and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) meetings.  It is the second time the Women's Basketball team has won the award.
