Scranton, PA – Marywood University Director of Athletics Dr. Mary Jo Gunning has announced the addition of Outdoor Track and Field to its sports sponsorship list with competition to begin in the fall of the 2014-15 academic year.  The men's and women's teams are the university's 18th and 19th varsity athletic programs and the sixth and seventh sports added since 2008.

“The addition of Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Teams will bolster our recruitment efforts of students from Northeastern Pennsylvania and across the region” said Dr. Gunning.  “A lot of interest has been expressed by current and prospective athletes in Track and Field and we're excited to offer them this competitive opportunity.”

Marywood becomes the fifth Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) member institution to offer outdoor track and field, increasing the likelihood of a Conference Championship meet and automatic berth into the NCAA Division III team and individual Championships.  Marywood joins Gwynedd-Mercy College, Immaculata University, Keystone College and Neumann University in offering outdoor men's and women's track and field.

“I am pleased at Marywood's announcement of adding outdoor track & field” said CSAC Commissioner Jennifer Dubow.  “We believe in the importance of offering a broad based athletics program and, while the CSAC does not sponsor track and field as a conference, our strategic plan calls for the continued evaluation of adding an outdoor track and field championship and this addition brings us closer to that goal with five teams now sponsoring.”

A national search for a full-time Head Coach of the Outdoor Track & Field Teams is ongoing.  The new coach will assume duties this fall with a full year to recruit new team members for Fall 2014.  The Head Coach will also become the Head Coach of the Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams as of January, 2014.
