Marywood Earns Third-Straight Women's President's Cup

Aston, PA – Marywood University claimed the Colonial States Athletic Conference Women's President's Cup Championship for the third consecutive year, conference officials announced Tuesday. The Pacers finished second overall in the 2012-13 standings and placed third in the men's category. The CSAC President's Cup is awarded annually to the men's, women's, and overall athletics program with the highest competitive rating – based on both regular season and conference playoff performance.

Marywood took the women's President's Cup honors in a tight race, achieving 78.03 percent of potential points. Neumann University trailed in second with 76.54 points, and Gwynedd-Mercy College took third with 75.85 percent. In 2012-13, the Pacers won both the women's cross country and women's tennis championships. They qualified for the CSAC playoffs in every women's program, including field hockey, softball, women's basketball, women's lacrosse, and women's volleyball.
 
The Pacers finished second to Cabrini College for the overall President's cup, with the Cavaliers achieving 76.14 percent of potential points. The Cavaliers won conference championships in men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, women's lacrosse, and men's lacrosse, while reaching the conference finals in field hockey and volleyball and finishing runner-up at the CSAC golf championships. Marywood achieved 71.25 percent of potential points, while Gwynedd-Mercy posted 69.51 percent and Neumann 67.32 percent. The Pacers jump to second after finishing in fourth in 2011-12.
 
Cabrini also took the CSAC men's President's Cup in a dominant performance posting 77.73 percentage points to best the next closest institution, Keystone College, by over ten percentage points. Marywood took third place with 63.50 percent to edge out Immaculata University with 63.31. Marywood's men's tennis team won its fourth straight CSAC championship and heads to the NCAA Tournament in Middlebury College in Vermont to take on Vassar College.
 
Institutional scores for the President's Cup are calculated using a graduated point system, with each participating institution earning a pro-rated share, based on conference finish.  The competitive percentage rating is determined by dividing the total number of points earned by an institution by its total possible points.
