Pacers Cruise Past Cyclones in CSAC First Round

Scranton, PA – Marywood University was clicking on all cylinders Saturday in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse First Round, scoring the game's first 14 goals en route to a 15-1 victory over Centenary College. The Pacers (9-8) advance to play Neumann University Wednesday in the semis.

Lauren Smith did not allow a goal in 50 minutes, 9 seconds in goal. Smith made six saves and picked up three ground balls.

Sarah Caughy contributed a game-high six points on four goals and two assists. Caughy also had a ground ball and two draw controls. Caughy sits one goal shy of 50 for the season.

Kimberly Commisso scored three goals and an assist for four points. Currently leading the NCAA in active career ground balls, Commisso tallied four ground balls in addition to six draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Natalie Burke penned an all-around effort on both offense and defense. Burke totaled a goal and three assists for four points. She had four ground balls and five caused turnovers.

Kathy DiGiacomo solidified her spot as the school's all-time career assists leader with four helpers to go with her one goal scored. DiGiacomo has 55 career assists to her credit.

Stacy Griffing and Dana Grossjung racked up two goals apiece. Emily Osborne had a goal and an assist.

Centenary came out with an advantage from the start, holding possession for most of the first six minutes of the game. Commisso hammered a backdoor pass from Caughy at 23:31 to give the Pacers a 1-0 advantage.

Commisso's goal opened the flood gates, and she assisted a Caughy goal 30 seconds later. Fourteen seconds went by before Burke winged a pass to Caughy for Marywood's third goal in a 44-second span.

Smith was taken out midway through the second half before returning again. After 14 straight Marywood goals, Centenary scored its only goal when Abby Voelkner lit the net on a Devin Sutko pass at 14:34.

Marywood outshot the Cyclones (4-11) by a 25-15 margin. The Pacers had a 23-22 ground ball edge. Marywood won 13 of 17 draw controls.

Neumann and Marywood played to an 8-7 thriller in their previous meeting this year. Neumann's Mandy Fedak scored the game-winning goal with 3:07 left.
