Ewing, N.J. - Host and fifth-ranked The College of New Jersey scored two early goals on crosses and cruiesed to a 7-0 win over Marywood University Saturday in the opening round of the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship Women's Soccer Tournament. The Lions improve to 17-1-1 with the win and will face the winner of the second game, Brandeis (Mass.) versus Virginia Wesleyan, who play at 1:30pm.  Marywood closes their season at 11-6-2.

Just under five minutes into the game, TCNJ got a goal off a corner kick.  Jessica Goldman sent a beautiful cross into the middle of the box that Marissa Scognamiglio got just enough of with her body to knock it home.  Moments later, the duo connected again, this time off a direct kick from just outside the left corner of the 18, with an almost exact finish from Scognamiglio.

In the 15th minute the Lions went up 3-0 on a penalty kicck from Elizabeth Thoresen, her ninth goal of the season. Aly Moyer played a fantastic angle on a breakaway attempt but her slide carried into the attacker, resulting in the questionable PK call.

The score would remain 3-0 for the next 22 minutes, but the hosts wore down Marywood and added one more before the break as Kayla Bertolino got in on a breakaway before finding Gianna Zarra for the goal.

Zarra would find the back of the net again early in the second half when Sarah Marion sent in a long cross to Zarra in the 48th minute.  Zarra calmly collected the ball and put it in the back of the net to the far post from 15 yards out.

TCNJ tacked on two more in the 58th minute (Joriam Rivra through ball from Despina Lianidis) and Lianidis from Alexa Pestritto in the 83rd.

The Lions outshot Marywood 27-0 on the day and had 13 corners while not allowing any.  Moyer finished with 10 saves for Marywood.

For Marywood, the careers of senior captains Brianna Bruster, Elizabeth Carlson, Emily Gerbehy and Amy Moren came to a close with the program's second ever Conference Championship and NCAA tournament berth and first since 2008.
