CSAC Team Academic Release

Aston, Pa. - Marywood University led the Colonial States Athletic Conference with three recipients of the CSAC Team Academic Awards for Fall 2016.

Marywood earned the top team Grade Point Average in field hockey (3.469), women's soccer (3.567) and women's tennis (3.637). It marks the second straight year that the women's soccer and field hockey teams won the award.

Established prior to the start of the 2013-14 academic year, the CSAC Team Academic Award is given annually to each sports team whose student-athletes, while competing in conference-sponsored sports, achieve the highest combined grade point average. Grade point average calculations correspond with the student-athletes' season of participation during the sport's traditional season. The 2016 Fall Team Academic Awards are based on each team's combined GPA from the Fall 2016 semester only.

The overall GPA for all Marywood student-athletes last semester was 3.34. Marywood's female student-athletes registered a 3.46 and males had a 3.19.

For the first time in school history, every Marywood athletics program achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or better.

Furthermore, 76 percent of student-athletes were above a 3.0 GPA for the fall semester. Forty-eight percent of student-athletes surpassed the 3.5 GPA mark. Of fall student-athletes, 69 percent were named to the CSAC Academic Honor Roll, to be released in the coming days.

Since the 2015-16 year, Marywood has collected 10 of 24, or 41.6 percent, of the CSAC Team Academic Awards. Since the award's inception, Marywood claimed over one-third of the awards.

The women's tennis team had the highest GPA of all of the Pacers' 20 programs. Softball closely trailed in second with a 3.63 GPA.

Immaculata University took the top spot in men's cross country (3.585) and men's soccer (3.388). This is the third time the men's soccer team has won the award.

Cairn University had the top team GPA in volleyball at 3.575, while Keystone College took top honors in women's cross country with a GPA of 3.725, the highest among all fall sport teams. The volleyball team from Cairn won the award for the second time.
