Men's Lacrosse Staves Off Ravens for 13-9 Win

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University held off Rosemont College for a 13-9 victory Wednesday in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference men's lacrosse matchup. The Pacers (6-8, 3-1 CSAC) move into third place in the standings at the midway point of their conference schedule.

Matt Casto scored the Pacers' highest offensive production in the past two seasons. He scored five goals and two assists for a career-best seven points. He matched a career high in goals.

Rob Maini provided the Pacers with two goals and an assist. Zach Vaughan had a pair of goals, and Zach Beja tallied a pair of assists. Austin Maylor and Luke Shedler matched them with a goal and an assist.

Defensively, Bobby Sedlock secured five ground balls and caused three turnovers. Chris Favale stopped half of the shots on goal with nine saves for his second straight win.

Riley Litman went 12 of 24 at the faceoff-x with six ground balls.

Marywood opened with the first three goals of the game and held onto its lead the rest of the way. The Pacers held the Ravens scoreless for the first eight minutes of the contest.

Skyler Swope took a ground ball coast-to-coast to open the scoring 1:40 into the game. Maylor let loose for a goal via Shedler at the 10:46 mark. Casto started his triumphant afternoon with a goal at 8:13 to go ahead by three. After Purnell Summers put the Ravens on the board, Casto tacked on two more to extend the lead to 5-1 and net a hat trick in quarter's end.

The teams traded goals in the second period, and Ben Koszelak tallied a goal to cut it to a 7-4 Marywood lead at halftime.

Koszelak followed through again to cut the Ravens' deficit to two with 8:34 left in the third. Marywood responded in fashion with four-straight goals in four minutes. Matt Mitarotonda started the run with a goal from Casto at 6:51. Vaughan capped it off with his second in a three-minute span to watch the Pacers' lead grow to 11-5.

Summers and Koszelak each had a hat trick for Rosemont. Anthony Bottoms had a team-best four points on a goal and three assists. Defender Dan Bowden generated eight ground balls.

Aside from the score, it was an otherwise even game for the Pacers and Ravens. Rosemont narrowly outshot Marywood by a 33-29 margin. Both teams had 35 ground balls, won 12 faceoffs, and converted clears at a similar clip.

Marywood travels to No. 14 Cabrini College on Tuesday.
