Marywood Announces New Athletic Identity, Website

Pacer logo redesigned, new website launched

Marywood Athletic Identity Guidelines

Scranton, Pa. – Marywood University's Athletics and Recreation Department recently announced a new athletic identity with a new athletics logo and a revamped and updated website. While the University's nickname will remain the Pacers, fans will notice a much more "athletic" feel to the logo.

"The new athletics logo symbolizes the strength of Pacer sports and projects a spirit of competitiveness," said Dr. Mary Jo Gunning, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "It is an appropriate visual representation of Marywood's current athletic tradition and future expectations."

The new logo was designed by graphic artist Ryan Gaylets (Norwalk, Connecticut). Ryan's brother played baseball for Marywood, and Ryan had initially designed the logo as a project while an intern for his portfolio. Marywood administrators saw the design and liked it right away.

"We figured why reinvent the wheel," said Andrew Smith, Assistant Director of Athletics and Recreation for Communications. "Ryan had already created the perfect identity we were seeking so we reached out to him with our interest in using it."  "The Pacers symbolize progress, growth, performance, and, now, the course for the future," observed Gaylets. "This logo embodies the spirit of the student athlete, a strong and fearless symbol that will represent the University wherever it may go."

In addition, a new uniform policy has been implemented that will give teams options other than forest green, white, and gold as main colors.

While Marywood will continue their partnership with SIDEARM sports for www.marywoodpacers.com, the newly launched website not only incorporates the new logo, but is also much more fan friendly than the previous site. The updated site will help the Athletic Department promote its 22 varsity sports with enhanced features through live stats, live video, and social media feeds.

"So far, we've received great reviews from the student-body, as the new logo was unofficially introduced at New Student Orientation weekend in July," Smith said. "We now look forward to hearing from current student-athletes, alumni, fans, and the community about the new look of our website and logo."
