Softball Slated Third in Preseason Poll

Aston, Pa. - Marywood University's softball team is slated third in the CSAC preseason poll after a vote from the league's head coaches. Neumann University was tabbed first. The Pacers earned three first-place votes.

The Knights, who won the championship last year, received 135 points and six first-place votes. Immaculata University was second with 127 points and three first-place votes, while Marywood University was third with 125 points and three first-place votes.

"It is a testament to our peers that they have graciously thought of us as the No. 1 team in the CSAC," said Neumann head coach Len Schuler. "We are a little different club this year than we were last year and our hopes are to play as well and continue the success the program has had in 2018."

"We feel as though those who have been brought in to replace our graduates of 2017 will be up to the task of continuing what we feel will be a solid season," he added.

Neumann finished last season with a mark of 29-16, and a 29-3 record in the CSAC. The Knights won the championship with a 5-0 win over Immaculata on May 7. Advancing to the NCAA tournament, the Knights lost to Kean but defeated Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) in the NCAA regional, before falling to Christopher Newport.

Cabrini University was fourth with 105 points, while Cedar Crest College was fifth with 94 points.

Gwynedd Mercy came in sixth with 85 points, followed by Centenary University with 76 points, Keystone College (62 points), Clarks Summit University (46), Rosemont College (29), Notre Dame of Maryland University (29) and Cairn University (23) rounded out the poll.

The CSAC season starts Friday, March 23 with six doubleheaders, with the championship to start on Wednesday, May 2, and continuing on Friday-Saturday, May 4-5. Marywood is coming off a 19-17 season where they went 19-3 in the CSAC and reached the playoffs.
