Late Charge Falls Short as Pacers Fall to Hartwick

Oneonta, NY – A late second-half charge came short as the Marywood University women's lacrosse team fell to Hartwick College Friday by a 14-11 score. The Pacers drop to 0-2 on the season with the loss.
 
Marywood went on a 5-1 run over a five-minute stretch to get within a goal of the Hawks late in the game. Kathy DiGiacomo scored with 4:55 remaining that put the Pacers behind 12-11. Hartwick (1-1) added two goals and held Marywood scoreless the rest of the way to punch the victory.
 
Forty-four seconds later following DiGiacomo's goal, Hartwick's Kate O'Shea added an insurance goal off an assist from Jackie Moynihan.
 
Kimberly Commisso led the Pacers with five goals, an assist and five ground balls. Stacy Griffing added a goal and an assist.
 
Marywood remained competitive despite trailing Hartwick in shots (38-19) and ground balls (33-18). The Pacers' shots were accurate with a success rate of 68.75 percent on shots on goal and 84.21 percent of shots being on nate , compared to the Hawks' 57.8 percent.
 
Diana D'Achille and Samantha Akshar each picked up three ground balls. D'Achille, DiGiacomo and Dana Grossjung tallied a goal and an assist. Michelle Thompson and Sarah Caughy caused two turnovers apiece.
 
Marywood goalkeeper Leigha Dolcemascolo made eight saves in a losing effort.
 
The Pacers found themselves on the ground looking up after Hartwick scored the first five goals of the game in the opening 12:33. Commisso stopped the drought with two goals in a 2:20 span.
 
After two Hawk goals, Marywood scored three goals in a row to head into the break trailing 7-5 following Griffin's goal on a D'Achille assist.
 
Down a man, Commisso produced a goal 52 seconds into the second half off a DiGiacomo assist that put the Pacers' within one. Hartwick proceeded to rattle off four consecutive goals to stretch its lead to five with 22:23 on the clock.
 
Meg Luce had seven points for the Hawks with five goals and two assists. Moynihan yielded four points with two goals and two assists.
 
Amanda Khozouri and Danielle McCabe each added a goal for the Pacers in the closing minutes.
 
Marywood trailed by 12-8 when a three-goal run put the Pacers in position for a comeback. D'Achille started the streak with an unassisted goal at 7:20. McCabe netted a Grossjung feed to make it a two-point game. Sixteen seconds later, DiGiacomo put the Pacers behind one at 12-11.
 
Hartwick's Moynihan produced the well-needed insurance goal at 2:07 on the clock.
 
Marywood finishes its Upstate New York trip when it returns to Oneonta, NY on March 9 to face Oneonta State.
