From the Director of Athletics and Recreation:
Simply put, there's no better time to be a Marywood Pacer. Our philosophy is a as simple as 3....2...1. We aim to achieve a 3.0 in the classroom, be in the top 2 of our athletic conference and we are all one team. Marywood University is an institution whose academic quality is enhanced by a competitive athletic tradition and a comprehensive recreational program. Marywood is an NCAA Division III institution and a member of the Atlantic East Conference, the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (men's golf), the Landmark Conference (women’s golf) and the National Esports Collegiate Conference (esports). Marywood recently announced that beginning July 1, 2026 the Pacers 22 NCAA Division III teams will begin competing in the Middle Atlantic Conference (press release).Â
Our sport schedules are challenging and include contests against schools encompassing a wide geographic area. Twenty four (24) varsity sports are sponsored: 10 men's (baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field); 13 women's sports (basketball, cross country, field hockey, flag football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, indoor and outdoor track & field, volleyball); plus esports (co-ed).
From 1992 through the end of the 2017-18 academic year, Marywood athletics was a member of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (formerly known as the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference). In that time, Marywood teams captured 40 CSAC/PAC championships and earned 48 runner-up finishes. In addition, women's golf won the inaugural Landmark Conference Championship in 2018 to bring the Pacers’ total of Conference titles to 41.
Inclusive of its postseason performances within the Atlantic East through the 2024-25 academic year, Marywood now has 68 conference championships and 69 runner-up finishes. The Pacers also have two ECAC post-season titles (Women's Soccer 2010 and Softball 2022) as well as six team runner-up finishes. The Track & Field programs have produced six ECAC indoor champions, as well as four outdoor champions.
Marywood University earned the first-ever Atlantic East Conference Women's Commissioner's Award as the Pacers were the top achieving institution throughout the 11 women's athletics programs offered by the conference in its first competitive season. Marywood finished as runner-ups for the Mike Drass Trophy and a three-way tie for third place in the Men's Commissioner's Award.
In 2010-11, for the first time in program history, Marywood earned all three CSAC President's Cups, sweeping the competition for the Overall, Men's and Women's Awards, recognizing the Men's, Women's and Overall athletics programs with the highest competitive percentage rating based on championship finish and regular season play. Marywood won the Women's President's Cup again in 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2016-17, while finishing 2nd overall in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15.
In addition to its Women's Commissioner's Award in 2018-19, the Pacers have been runner-ups for the Mike Drass Trophy in 2018-19, 2023-24, and 2024-25. Marywood was runner-ups for the Women's Commissioner Award in 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25. The Pacers were Men's Commissioner Award runner-ups in 2023-24.
Through the 2024-25 academic year, 1,892 Marywood student-athletes have earned All-Conference (PAC/CSAC/Landmark/Atlantic East) honors, including 796 First Team, 750 Second Team, 15 Third Team (Track & Field only from 2015-2018), and 331 Honorable Mention selections. Additionally, 219 student-athletes earned All-Sportsmanship selections. Various coaches' organizations have recognized 358 athletes as National Academic Honorees, and another 12 athletes as Regional Academic honorees. Marywood also earned the CSAC Institutional Excellence Award in 2014-15 and 2015-16 for having the highest GPA as an athletic department across the Conference. Marywood has had 48Â teams earn Conference Team Academic Awards (highest GPA per competing sport) between the CSAC and Atlantic East since the award was introduced in 2013.
Marywood is also guided by the belief that intramural and recreational opportunities are vital to the collegiate experience. Thus we offer opportunities in this area including a diverse selection of intramural programs and a variety of fitness, aerobic, martial arts, and recreation classes. In addition, club sports such as rugby, cheerleading and dance, among others, are sponsored through the office of Student Engagement. Free aerobic classes are also available for all students.
Built in 2006, the $14 million Center for Athletics and Wellness offers state-of-the-art fitness, recreation, and athletic opportunities and includes a premier fitness center, an elevated running track, a dance/aerobic studio, an arena to showcase Pacer Sports, high tech athletic training areas as well as a Recovery Room powered by Hyperice. The Lynett-Haggerty Family Fitness Center - a 5000 square foot facility - underwent a complete renovation (inclusive of all new Matrix strength and cardiovascular equipment) in the summer of 2024 and features a two-story rock-climbing wall.Â
Outdoor athletic facilities include six tennis courts, a sand volleyball court and basketball courts. The baseball and softball fields are some of the finest in the region, having won National awards, and the multipurpose natural grass field underwent a major renovation which includes laser-leveling, an irrigation system and new grass mixture. The lit synthetic turf facility received new turf in the summer of 2017 and is utilized by many outdoor sports as well as recreation programs. Our Aquatic Center opened in May 2011 and is an eight-lane facility with 3-meter and 1-meter boards, inclusive of team rooms, safety center and spectator area, making it one of the premier competition pools in the region.
