Scranton, PA – Sarah Caughy scored four goals as Marywood University women's lacrosse come back fell short 6-5 at the hands of Hartwick College Tuesday at a frigid Pacers Turf Field. The Pacers fall to 0-2 on the season.

With temperatures at 17 degrees, goals were hard to come by. The 11 combined goals register as the lowest scoring game in Marywood women's lacrosse history. The previous low was a 7-6 Marywood win over Washington & Jefferson College in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic semifinal on May 12, 2012.

Trailing 6-3 with 15 minutes remaining, Caughy scored two goals in the final quarter of the game to nearly send the game into overtime. Marywood had possession in the final minute; however, a charging penalty called on Stacy Griffing turned the ball over to the Hawks with 35 seconds left.

Kathy DiGiacomo scored the only other goal for the Pacers. Emily Osborne and Griffing each supplied an assist. Natalie Burke tallied her third assist of the season.

Marywood owned its first lead of the season when Osborne dished Caughy a feed to go on top 1-0 with 21:30 on the clock. The Pacer lead was only ephemeral as Ally Naja squared the game at one apiece 36 seconds later.

Meagan Wright scored the Hawks' go-ahead goal with 10:14 on the clock. The Pacers still were in arm's reach before Hartwick sparked two goals in the final 38 seconds of the half. Wright scored a man-up goal. With seven seconds on the clock, Lauren Rosenberg went down the field off Sara Jawid's draw control to torch the net and give Hartwick a 4-1 lead at halftime.

Marywood came out of halftime with a vengeance. Caughy weaved her way around defenders for a goal at the 27:14 mark. Just 16 seconds later, Dana Grossjung won a faceoff opportunity to set up the Pacers' third score. DiGiacomo found a hole in the goalkeeper's armor off a spot-on Griffing pass.

Hartwick's Ali Sisco scored two goals in a row to give the Hawks its three-goal lead again. Caughy and Burke teamed up for a score at 14:55. Nine minutes later, Caughy came through again, rifling a cross-field shot from 12 yards out.

The Hawks' Steph Luce turned away two shots on goal in the final five minutes to secure her second win of the season.

Lauren Smith made 10 saves in net for the Pacers. She shared the team-lead with Natalie Burke and Samantha Akshar with four ground balls. Grossjung and Commisso each had two draw controls.

Hartwick kept an 11-7 edge with limited draw control chances. Marywood outshot the Hawks 25-21 and had a 25-18 advantage in ground balls.

Marywood struggled on free-position shots, going 0-for-7 on eight-meter chances. Hartwick made one of its two free-position shots.

The defense held a non-conference opponent to the lowest scoring total since the Pacers kept King's College to five goals on March 18, 2010.

Mary Ninivaggi and Burke each had two caused turnovers.

Marywood will host its third game in six days when Mount Saint Mary (N.Y) College visits Pacers Turf Field Thursday at 4:00 pm. Hartwick defeated Mount Saint Mary 15-9 on Saturday.
