Millersville Edges Men's Rugby, 38-34

Millersville, Pa. - Host Millersville University pulled out a tight win over Marywood University Saturday afternoon in men's rugby, edging the Pacers 38-34.

Millersville punched one in for a go-ahead try with no time remaining on the clock. Marywood (2-1) missed the play of injured 8-man Chris Wilhide and Loose Head Prop Tim Moran.

The match consisted of four 20-minute quarters versus the normal 40-minute halves. In the first quarter of play, Millersville scored two unanswered trys, neither of which they converted. Pacers' co-captain James Nehlig kicked two penalty kicks to keep Marywood within reach (10-6) after one quarter of play.

In the second quarter, Marywood dominated the time of possession (75%). The Pacers were able to score two trys. The first try was scored by Nehlig off a pick-and-go right at the Millersville try-line. Nehlig also converted the try. Millersville answered with a try of their own, but Marywood answered right back with another unassisted try from PJ McBride off of a series of pick and rolls deep in Millersville territory. Nehlig convered to give Marywood a 20-17 halftime lead.

After the break, Marywood continued to dominate time of possession (72%). Flyhalf Mitch Romanowski was able to score his only try of the day following a great off-load from Winger Matt Early. Millersville scored off of a penalty play deep in Marywood territory and successfully converted the try, keeping Marywood ahead 27-24 after the third.

Marywood began the fourth quarter strong when Nehlig made a beautiful pass to score Marywood's fourth try on the day. Nehlig converted the try, giving him a perfect day with six penalty or conversions attempted and all six successfully made.

The Marauder's finished the game strong with two more tries, both with successful conversions, the last and go-ahead try scored
with no time remaining on the clock, giving the hosts a 38-34 victory. 

Marywood is back in action October 16 when they host Gettysburg at 1:00 pm.
