Women's Golf Heads to AEC Championships in a Three-Way Tie for Second

Lancaster, Pa. — Marywood University sits in a three-way tie for second place heading into the Atlantic East Conference Women's Golf Championships on Monday. The Saints of Marymount was tabbed to defend their Atlantic East Women's Golf title as voted on by the conference head coaches.

The 2023 Atlantic East Conference Championship will tee off at 11am on Monday, October 16th. The event will be hosted by Cabrini at Golden Oaks Golf Club, in Fleetwood, Pa. This year the Atlantic East will have four teams represented in the Golf Championship: Cabrini, Marymount, Marywood, and Neumann.

Marymount received three first place votes and nine total points in the poll. Marymount returns the reigning Atlantic East Golfer of the Year in Hunter Gillis. Gillis has also earned the only weekly honor to date. Joining her from the 2022 squad include Kate Parsons, Peyton Kraras, and 2022 Rookie of the Year Noelle Jensen. The four returners to the lineup each earned Atlantic East First team honors for 2022. Rounding out their lineup in the third spot for the Saints is first year Rebecca Luchs.

Taking the final first place vote was Cabrini who finished tied with Marywood and Neumann with five points each in the poll.

The Cavaliers are led by Ashley Ea, who has had a successful start to the season earning weekly honor roll this fall. Ea will look to compete again for the top spot in the conference after finishing second in 2022.  She is followed behind by first year Katherine Gaffney who finished second for the Cavaliers in their first two tournaments of the season. Rounding out the roster is junior Kylie Ennis and sophomores Daly Ewing and Sara Hussey.  Ennis earned Atlantic East All Conference Second Team honors in the 2022 championship.

Marywood is led by graduate student Emily Dowler who earned medalist honors in a tri-match against Wilkes and SUNY Cobleskill this fall. Her medalist honors came when she shot a 93 (+22) at Stone Hedge Golf Course in Tunkhannock, Pa. She is joined by returning Atlantic East All Conference Second Team member Maddie Franceski. Also joining the Pacers in the tournament are first year Anna Galko and sophomore Gracie Secor.

Neumann returns three from its 2022 roster with Giovanna Scuderi and Samantha Holmburg and Brielle Walto.  The three juniors are joined by classmate Emma Kensey to compete at the Atlantic East Championship. This is the first golf outing for the team this fall.

The awards ceremony will take place following the round, where the following will be recognized: Team Champion, Team Runner-Up, First-Team and Second-Team All-Conference, Golfer of the Year, and Rookie of the Year, and Elite-20 Award winner.
