Pacers Conquer the Griffins in Senior Day Sweep

Pacers end the season, 16-21

Scranton, Pa. — The Marywood University baseball team wrapped up regular season play on Saturday, as they hosted Gwynedd Mercy University for a two-game set. The Pacers finished off the three game series sweep with two victories today, 5-4 and 8-5.

In between games, Marywood honored seniors Adam Anderson, Collin Becker, AJ Giannetti, Brett Kugler, and Christian Michak.

Game One: Marywood 5, Gwynedd Mercy 4

The Pacers wasted no time at all, grabbing an early lead in game one.

In the bottom of the first inning, Joel Ayers opened up the scoring with an RBI single.

Giannetti followed that up with an RBI double to left center, making it 2-0.

An RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Max Slusser brought in Ayers to extend the Marywood lead to 3-0.

Both clubs were scoreless for the next few innings before the Pacers added some insurance.

In the bottom of the fifth, Adam Ginsberg drove in to runs on a single to right field to make it 5-0.

A homerun and a single brought the Griffins within two in the top half of the sixth, 5-3.

Gwynedd Mercy inched even closer with another run in the seventh, but the Pacers would hold on to win 5-4.

Ayers led the way for Marywood, collecting three of the nine total hits.

Evan Bruder tallied a pair of hits as well.

Austin Bausmann (3-2) picked up the win for the Pacers, tossing five scoreless innings while striking out six.

Reilly Owen and Kugler each tossed an inning in relief, with Kugler recording the save, his first of the year.

Game Two: Marywood 8, Gwynedd Mercy 5

Marywood picked up right where they left off, grabbing a run in each of the first two innings.

An RBI groundout from Ginsberg gave the Pacers a 1-0 lead in the first, just before a second inning Slusser double extended it to 2-0.

After the Griffins grabbed a run in the third, Marywood answered with a run of their own in the fourth, as Ethan Lavine scored on a ball to make it 3-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, Michak added to the lead with a solo homer.

Giannetti followed that up with an RBI single before AJ Kuzior blasted a three-run homerun to stretch the lead to 8-1.

Gwynedd Mercy didn't go away quietly, as the Griffins scored four runs in the top half of the seventh to get back within three, 8-5.

Marywood held on for the 8-5 victory, completing the sweep.

Ethan Reccek and Giannetti each collected three hits in the game.

AJ Kuzior led Marywood with three RBIs.

Max Ryan picked up the win on the mound for the Pacers. Ryan allowed only one run and four hits in six innings of work, walking five and striking out four.

The Pacers conclude the season with an overall 16-21 record.
