Marywood Falls in Crosstown Contest Against Scranton

Toth scores her first goal of the season

Scranton, Pa. — On Tuesday evening, the Marywood University field hockey team traveled a mere 10 minutes South to take on crosstown foe, University of Scranton. The Pacers (2-2) would go on to drop a tightly contested match, 3-1, to the Royals (4-1).  

Scranton struck first in the 6th minute of play, tallying the only score of the first half to the early 1-0 lead. 

In the 37th minute, Marywood retaliated with a goal of their own, as Emma Toth buried a pass from Dariane Jones to even it up at 1-1. 

The Royals went on to score two unanswered goals in the fourth period. The tallies came in the 50th and 53rd minutes of play. 

Scranton look home the 3-1 victory. 

The Pacers were out-shot by the Royals, 25-4. 

Three of the four Marywood shots were on target, compared to the 14 of Scranton. 

The Royals also led in penalty corners, 15-3. 

Sabrina Frazer recorded 11 saves in the cage for Marywood. 

Royals' keeper, Maclean Thuermer, tallied two saves. 

The Pacers will be back in action on Saturday as they head north to Rochester for the first of two games this upcoming weekend.
