Scranton, PA - Junior middle blocker Abby Barrett (Towanda, PA) had 16 kills and six digs and senior middle blocker Brooke Hinkley (Hallstead, PA) contributed nine total blocks and three service aces to lead The University of Scranton to a 3-0 victory (30-15, 30-7, 30-26) over backyard neighbor Marywood University at the Long Center Tuesday evening.
The Royals, now 19-9, also received 33 assists from junior setter Jenn McKeighan (Newtown Square, PA) and 10 digs, four kills and two service aces from junior outside hitter Jacqueline Pisano (Exton, PA). Marywood, which fell to 5-13, was led by sophomore outside hitter Taryn Borden (Bridgewater, NJ) with seven kills and four digs and sophomore middle hitter Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA) and junior middle hitter Natasha Freethy (Honesdale, PA) chipped in five kills apiece.
Hinkley's nine total blocks gives her 493 for her career, which is second all-time in Scranton history. She is seven total blocks shy of joining Anne McGovern as the only player in Royals' history with 500-or-more in a career. McGovern had 605 total blocks during her career from 1996-1999.
Scranton will take on Elmira College tomorrow evening in Elmira, New York, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Royals are one win shy of posting at least 20 victories for the 14th consecutive season. Marywood will host Centenary College in PAC action Thursday evening at 7:00 pm.
