Pacers Drop Pair at Albright Tri-Match

Reading, PA – Marywood dropped a pair of non-conference matches as the Pacers fell to host Albright College (3-2) and Wilkes University (3-0) Saturday afternoon at the Albright College tri-match in Reading.  Albright is now 5-15 on the season with one match remaining while Marywood fell to 5-16 and has three matches left.  The Lady Colonels are now 11-15 overall.

In the opener, Albright won the first game 30-27, only to see Marywood rally to win games two and three by identical 30-25 scores. Facing a 2-1 deficit, the Lady Lions rallied, winning game four 30-24 to set up a fifth and deciding game. Albright was able to prevail in game five 15-10 to capture the match 3-2. Senior Keri Wischner led the Lady Lions with 15 kills, while junior Jess Higgins and sophomore Cassie Campbell each had 13 kills. Wischner also had a team-leading 25 digs in the match, and freshman Lauren Higgins had 41 assists and four service aces.

For Marywood, Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA) had 10 kills, 8 digs and a match-high 11 service aces.  Green also added a 3-solo blocks while Natasha Freethy (Honesdale, PA) had a match-high 6 solo blocks and 12 kills.  Taryn Borden (Bridgewater, NJ) also had 12 kills for Marywood. 

The Lady Colonels posted a 30-14, 30-27, 30-15 win over Marywood University in their first match of the day, before suffering a 30-26, 29-31, 30-20, 30-20 loss to host Albright in the nightcap.  Katherine Harrington paced the Wilkes attack in the win over Marywood with 14 kills, eight digs and three blocks. Katherine Simons added seven kills, while Marissa Harrison had six kills, 12 digs and seven aces.

Against Wilkes, Marywood's offense was stalled as the Pacers could manage just 11 kills in three games.  Borden again led Marywood with 6 kills for 18 on the day. 

Marywood returns to action Tuesday with a PAC match against Gwynedd-Mercy College at 7:00 pm.
