BOX SCORE
Scranton, PA – Down a goal and a player late in the second half, Marywood rallied to force overtime on a goal by Alex Dawson (Binghamton, NY) with seven minutes left in regulation, only to fall on Chris Hill's golden goal 2:17 into the second overtime period. With the loss, the Pacers fall to 5-11 on the season and 0-7 in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference play while the Cyclones improve to 7-9-1 overall and 2-5 in the PAC.
Marywood opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Greg Cleary (Parsippany, NJ) beat his defender on the flank and fired a low shot that beat Cyclones' goalkeeper Damien DiBuono from a hard angle for his team-leading seventh goal of the season. Centenary responded just over five minutes later when Josh Spivack scored unassisted, curling a left-footed shot from the corner of the 18-yard box just inside the far par post.
The second half was evenly contested, but the Cyclones took the lead in the 72nd minute when Hill scored his first goal of the afternoon, taking a thru-ball from Damien Gallegos and beating Pacers' goalkeeper Jonathan Tyson (Moscow, PA). Playing down a man, the Pacers were able to force overtime when Dawson found a loose ball in the six-yard box after a Marywood restart and pushed the ball over the goal line for the equalizer.
After a scoreless first-overtime session, Hill scored the game-winner, his second goal of the game, by firing a low shot that caromed in off the far post with a defender tight to his hip.
The Cyclones held a 19-13 advantage in shots and a slim 8-7 edge in corner kicks. Tyson made six saves in a losing effort, while DiBuono made three stops to pick up the win.
Marywood will wrap-up their 2007 campaign on Saturday when they visit Gwynedd-Mercy College for a PAC contest scheduled to kick off a 1:00 p.m.
