Scranton, PA – Marywood University made the most of their Senior Day with a big 3-1 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference win over visiting Gwynedd-Mercy College Tuesday evening at Marywood's Insalaco Arena. The win moves the Pacers to 6-16 (2-7 PAC) while the Griffins fell to 8-18 (5-5 PAC).
Marywood opened the match with 30-18 and 30-24 wins to go up 2-0. Gwynedd-Mercy would rally in game three and eventually score a 30-21 win, but Marywood was up to the task in game four and came out with a tough 30-28 win.
Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA) had a big night for the Pacers with a 16-kill, 5-dig effort. Green also added four solo blocks on the night for Marywood. Senior Katie Coyne (Stony Point, NY) dished out a match-high 36 assists on the night, while Natasha Freethy (Honesdale, PA) added 10 kills. Senior Marin Braco (Binghamton, NY) had a team-high 12 digs for the Pacers.
Gwynedd-Mercy was led by Monica Taylor, who had 10 kills and 13 digs in the loss. Kandace Pickeral had 35 assists, while Meredith Collins had a match-high 22 digs.
Marywood honored their three seniors prior to their final home game of the season. Katie McCormick (Perkasie, PA), Coyne and Braco were all presented with flowers and gifts in front of family and friends.
Marywood will close out their 2007 season with two road trips, beginning with a 7:00 pm PAC match at Rosemont College Thursday night.
