BOX SCORE
Scranton, PA – Cabrini College converted on their first three penalty kicks and Marywood University missed their first two opportunities as visiting six-seed Cabrini College advanced to the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Women's Soccer semifinals after a 1-1 double-overtime tie.
Sabina DeGisi (Medford, NJ) opened the scoring for the visitors at the 19:10 mark when she scored on a 10-yard blast off just outside the left corner of the six-yard box. DeGisi had beaten three Pacer defenders on the way to notching her team-leading 18th goal of the year. Marywood would respond a little over a minute later when senior Annie McDonald (Sag Harbor, NY) finished a Shannon Hresko (Gibbstown, NJ) corner kick. After the corner kick skimmed through the 18, McDonald fired a one-time shot that went back across the goal mouth, hit the far post and bounced in.
From there, both teams would play through a scoreless second half and two overtime periods. Marywood's Jen Slesinski (Middletown, NY) stepped up for the first penalty kick but hit the left post. Nikki Duggan (Allentown, PA) converted for Cabrini with a shot to the lower left corner to put the Cavaliers up 1-0. After Marywood's Lisa Gavin (Woodbury Heights, NJ) missed wide right, Cabrini's Chrissy Regan (Philadelphia, PA) converted right down the middle of the goal mouth to give the visitors the 2-0 edge. Marissa Ruda (Athens, PA) converted for the Pacers to bring the score to 2-1, but Dana Nardello's (Berlin, NJ) penalty kick to the right put Cabrini back up 3-1.
Facing elimination, Marywood's Lisa Hanselman (Manheim, PA) stepped up but Cabrini keeper Cheyenne White (Waterbury, VT) was up to the task. White started to her right, but reached back to her left to tip Hanselman's shot down the middle. The tip forced the ball high and careened it off the top crossbar to allow the Cavaliers to advance.
Marywood closed their season at 11-3-4. Cabrini, now 7-8-4 on the year, advances to Wednesday's semifinal round where they will face top seeded Eastern University.
