Scranton, PA – After being shutout in their last three contests, Marywood's attack came alive in a big way on Wednesday afternoon, matching a school record for goals in game to score a 9-0 victory over visiting Cedar Crest College in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference match-up. With the win, the Pacers improve to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference while the Falcons fall to 0-12 overall in 0-8 in the PAC.
Marywood jumped out to an early lead when Shannon Hubbard (Oxford, NY) scored unassisted just 2:47 into the contest, then doubled their lead at the 9:06 mark after Emily Wentzel (East Earl, PA) tallied an unassisted marker. Wentzel would then set up Kate Krempasky (Honesdale, PA) for a goal with 16:21 to play in the half. Caitlin Hadzimichalis (Harmony, NJ) was also credited with an assist on the Krempasky's goal.
Hubbard increased Marywood's lead to four with 11 minutes left to play in the first half by scoring her second goal of the afternoon, this one coming off a feed from Hadzimichalis. The Pacers took a comfortable 5-0 lead into halftime after Heather Hosie netted her first goal of the season off a feed from Erin Saake (Manasquan, NJ) with just 4 seconds left in the period.
Marywood's attack continued to click in the second half and Hadzimichalis increased the Pacers' lead with successive goals. Holly Vaughn (Hummelstown, PA) assisted on Hadzimichalis' goal with 31:50 to play in the second half, while Saake recorded her second assist when Hadzimichalis scored again with 5:56 to play. Krempasky found the back of the cage unassisted for her second goal with 2:43 to play and Meghan Ballantine (Cragsmoor, NY) capped the scoring with her first goal of the season off a feed from Hubbard with 1:10 to play.
Cedar Crest's Rachel Orlen turned in a gutsy performance in the Falcons' cage, stopping 37 Pacers' shots. Stephanie Ziemski (Lake Hiawatha, NJ) picked up her third shutout of the year without facing a shot.
The Pacers return to action on Saturday when they visit Rosemont College in another PAC contest.
