Scranton, PA – Marywood University snapped a nine-match losing streak as the host Pacers topped visiting Mt. St. Mary College (NY) 3-2 in non-conference women's volleyball action Wednesday evening at Marywood's Insalaco Arena. The win, Marywood's first in their last 10-matches, moves the Pacers to 4-11 overall while the Blue Knights slip to 6-13.
The night didn't start off to well for Marywood, as the Pacers dropped game one 30-15. The Pacers battled back to take a hard-fought game two 33-31, but the Blue Knights went up 2-1 with a 31-29 win in game three. Marywood then turned things on offensively, getting 11 kills in game 4 to win 30-17. In decisive game five, Marywood topped the visitors 15-8 to come away with the win.
Marywood's Natasha Freethy (Honesdale, PA) registered 15 kills on 31 attacks and also had 6 digs. Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA) had 13 kills, while Katie Coyne (Stony Point, NY) had 34 assists on the night. Taryn Borden (Bridgewater, NJ) led the Pacers defensively with 7 digs.
For the Blue Knights, Ashley Barnhart (Kingston, NY) and teammate Amanda Carfora (Wallkill, NY) each had a match-high 16 kills. Katie Toole (Wallkill, NY) had a match-high 40 assists on the night. Carfora added a match-high 26 digs, while Barnhart had 24.
Marywood returns to PAC action Saturday when they travel to face Immaculata University at 12:00 pm.
