Marywood, Baptist Bible Advance at Tip-Off Tourney

Scranton, PAMarywood University and Baptist Bible College advanced to tomorrow's Championship game of the 2007 Coca-Cola Tip-Off Tournament with victories over PSU-Hazleton and Penn College, respectively, Friday night at Marywood's Insalaco Arena.  The Pacers (1-0) beat the Lions (0-1) 66-41 while the Defenders (1-0) advanced with a 88-61 win over the Wildcats (0-1). 

In the opener, Baptist Bible placed four players in double figures and forced Penn College 23 turnovers which resulted in 25 points for the Defenders.  Baptist Bible's Heather Dodd (Binghamton, NY) led the Defenders with 18 points, while teammate Naomi Sweeney (Matamoras, PA) added 14 and grabbed 7 rebounds.  Holly Watson (Galloway, NJ) added 10 points with a team-high eight rebounds, while Jessica Pollock (Clarks Summit, PA) added 10 points in the winning effort.

Erica Logan (Montoursville, PA) led all scorers in the opening game with 20 points while teammate Amanda Ault (Milan, PA) had 16 points and 7 rebounds.  Jessica Strasser (Hawley, PA) had a game-high nine rebounds for the Wildcats. 

In the nightcap, sophomore All-Conference selection Amanda Lass (Brackney, PA)  picked up where she left off last year with another double-double with 10 points 10 boards.  Marywood used a 15-0 run over the middle part of the half to go up 24-4 and then added 17 more to take a 41-18 lead at intermission.  In the first half alone, Marywood forced 17 turnovers while placing two players in double-digits.  Marywood then opened the second half on a 12-0 run over the first seven minutes to stretch their lead to 53-18. 

Marywood's bench outscored Penn State's 26-6 on the night, and the Pacers forced 30 turnovers which resulted in 25 points.  Caitlin Hadzimichalis (Harmony, NJ) led all scorers with 14 points for Marywood, while teammate Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA) came off the bench for a 13 point effort.  Steph Halliday (Delaware Valley) led the Lions with 11 points and teammate Ashley Kessell (Weatherly Area) added 10. 

Marywood and Baptist Bible will face each other Saturday at approximately 3:00 pm following the consolation game between PSU-Hazleton and Penn College at 1:00 pm.
