Former Olympian One of Three to Join Athletics Staff

Scranton, PA - Marywood University Director of Athletics and Recreation, Dr. Mary Jo Gunning recently announced three appointments to the Marywood Pacer athletic department staff.

Former Olympian and Waverly native, Abby Peck has been named assistant women's tennis coach. Peck, a former Olympian in the sport of rowing and local native, has an extensive background in athletics which includes twenty years of coaching a variety of sports.

Peck, a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic rowing team, later served as team captain of the 1988 Olympic team. A 12-time national rowing champion and 6-time winner of The Head of the Charles Regatta (Boston, MA), Peck was a silver medalist at the World Championships and at 2-time silver medalist at the Goodwill Games in Moscow, Russia. She was named one of Northeastern Pennsylvania's Top 100 athletes in 2004

A part-time instructor within Marywood's Health and Physical Education curriculum, Peck spent nine years as a professor and varsity rowing coach at Wellesley College in Massachusetts and was inducted into Northeastern Pennsylvania's Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.

Kicking the new lacrosse program into high gear, the University announced that Scott Dalgliesh, a 2007 graduate of Dickinson College will join the Marywood athletic staff as assistant men's lacrosse coach. Dalgliesh will work with Marywood head men's lacrosse Coach, Mic Grant as the Pacers embark on their first season of competition next year.

A Law and Policy major at Dickinson, Dalgliesh was a four-year member of the Dickinson men's lacrosse team. During that time, Dickinson was ranked as high as 8th in the country.

Kingston resident Peter Schmidt will serve as the Athletic Administration Intern. A four-year member of the Wilkes men's soccer team, Schmidt will now be responsible for overseeing Marywood's student-athlete programming needs.

In addition to his duties as chair of the student-athlete advisory committee, Schmidt will serve as an assistant to Director of Sports Information and Athletic Promotions. He will assist in the promotion of Marywood's 14 varsity athletic programs. A 2003 Wilkes University graduate with a bachelor's degree in political science and English, Schmidt has been a statistician with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (af2) football team since 2005.
