Notre Dame Holds Off Marywood, 5-4

Scranton, PA – The College of Notre Dame swept doubles action and then collected wins at 3 and 4 singles as the visiting Gators earned a 5-4 win over host Marywood University in PAC tennis action Saturday afternoon in Scranton.  The match lasted over four and a half hours. 

Miku White (Great Mills, MD) and Meryl Krich (Baltimore, MD) teamed at #1 doubles for a 9-8 (7-4) tie-breaking win over Marywood's Ryann Null (Cogan Station, PA) and Alesha Petrash (Mountaintop, PA).  The Gators followed with an 8-4 win at #2 doubles and a 8-6 win at #3 doubles to take the early 3-0 lead.

Despite winning four of six singles matches, the Pacers, now 4-6 (2-4 PAC) on the year, could not complete the comeback. Marywood's Jodi Balch (Matamoras, PA) earned a 6-0, 6-3 win at #5 singles and Michaela Herr (Boalsburg, PA) followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Amanda Hollister (Meshoppen, PA), but the Gators earned wins at #3 and 4 singles to take the match.

Petrash earned a 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 win at #2 singles for Marywood, while Null won 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 12-10 at #1 singles.  Marywood is off until Wednesday when they travel to Allentown to face Cedar Crest College at 3:00 pm.
