Edwardsville, PA - Wilkes University dominated play, allowing only seven games in the entire match, on their way to a 9-0 non-conference women's tennis win over Marywood University on Thursday afternoon at the Ralston Complex. The Lady Colonels won their second straight to open the season. The Pacers saw their record even at 1-1.
Wilkes surrendered only one game in the three doubles matches on the way to the sweep. The Lady Colonels top tandem of Alison McDonald and Xiaoqiao Zhang earned an 8-1 win over Samantha Miller and Aubrey Klesh. The number-two doubles team of Kristin Wilt and Victoria Bybel scored an 8-0 win over Jodi Balch and Sarah Donohoe. The third doubles team of Michelle Knight and Katie Buckley also won by a score of 8-0 over Erin Visalli and Emma Noble.
McDonald topped Miller, 6-0, 6-0 in the first singles match. Zhang followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Klesh at number-two. Wilt gained a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Balch in the third singles match.
At fourth singles Knight gave up just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Visalli. Bybel also surrendered just one game in posting a win over Donohoe, 6-0, 6-1. Buckley capped the match for Wilkes by scoring a 6-0, 6-4 win over Noble.
Marywood will host Neumann College Saturday at 1:00 pm in their PAC opener.
