Scranton, PA - Neumann College came from behind to win their PAC opener 5-4 over host Marywood University Saturday afternoon in Scranton. The Knights move to 2-2 (1-0 PAC) on the year while the Pacers slip to 1-2 (0-1 PAC).
Marywood found themselves up 2-1 after doubles play when Ryann Null (Cogan Station, PA/Williamsport) and Alesha Petrash (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) teamed up for a 8-1 win at #1 doubles and Jodi Balch (Matamoras, PA/Delaware Valley) and Aubrey Klesh (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton Area) won 8-4 at #2 doubles for the Pacers. Neumann's Lindsay Ravior and Courtney Hartel won 8-3 at #3 doubles to gain the Knights' first point of the match.
In singles play, Marywood quickly extended their lead to 4-1 with a Null 6-1, 6-1 win at #1 singles and a Klesh 6-2, 6-3 win at #5 singles. The Neumann comeback began with a Hartel 6-1, 6-1 win at #6 singles to make it 4-2. Neumann would then go to three sets in two other matches, winning both matches in the final set. Allison Trout defeated Marywood's Petrash at #2 singles 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) and Michelle Steward topped Samantha Miller (Ashley, PA/Hanover Area) 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) at #3. Finally, at #4 singles, Ravior topped Michaela Herr (Boalsburg, PA/State College Area) 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 to win the match for the Knights.
Marywood returns to action Tuesday when they will try to even their PAC record with a match at Immaculata University at 4:00 pm.
