Hackettstown, NJ - The Centenary Women's basketball team played host to Marywood University, a PAC Conference rival this evening in a double header with the men. Despite a tight first half, the Lady Cyclones were able to take a commanding lead over the Pacers and come away with a 68-55 victory.
The game began with the majority of play going end to end and neither team getting an edge. Ten minutes into the first half the game was knotted up at 15-15. With five minutes left to go in the half the Pacers took a five point lead, which would be their largest of the game. A three point play by Stephanie Roberts brought Centenary back to within three only seconds later. Senior Laura Feigus and freshman Leah Murphy both hit three pointers to give their team a six point lead heading into the locker room, 33-27. At the halftime buzzer, Roberts had tallied 18 of the women's 33 total points.
Centenary's burst at the end of the first period gave the Lady Cyclones the momentum they needed to open up the score in second half. The women went on a 12-3 run expanding their lead to 17 off of a foul shot by Roberts. Centenary maintained a 10 plus point margin throughout the remainder of the game.
Stephanie Roberts dominated the floor for the Lady Cyclones, totaling 28 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Laura Feigus and Ayana Way both aided in the victory putting up 12 and nine points respectively.
For the Pacers, Caity Hadzimichalis (Harmony, NJ) led with 15 points and four steals, while teammate Amanda Lass (Brackney, PA) came away with a double-double, tallying 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Presently, Centenary is 7-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The loss pushes Marywood to 2-2 in the PAC and 8-3 overall. The Pacers will look to end their two-game skid when they return to PAC action Thursday as Marywood plays host to Cedar Crest College at 7:00 pm in the Insalaco Arena.
