Scranton, PA – Matthew Medici (Princeton, NJ) and Karl Anderson (Northampton, PA) each recorded a double-double as Marywood rallied after trailing by 13 points midway through the second half to claim a 70-61 win over visiting Penn College Wednesday evening at the Insalaco Arena. With the win, the Pacers evened their record at 6-6, while the Wildcats fell to 4-7.
The two teams traded the lead throughout the beginning of the first half and the Pacers took a 27-22 lead after Anderson hit a three-pointer with 4:18 to play in the half. However, the Wildcats would outscore the Pacers 14-2 the rest of period to hold a seven point advantage as the teams headed to their locker rooms.
Anderson led the Pacers with 10 first half points, while Medici, the reigning PAC Player of the Week, notched seven points. Craig Flint led all scorers for the half with 16, while Joseph Wysock chipped in 12 for Penn College.
In the second half, the Wildcats would stretch their lead to 13 points when Joe Simon hit a three-pointer with 11:33 to play. However, the Pacers would soon turn the game around by outscoring the visitors 20-5 over period of 5:40 to take a 59-54 lead.
Phillip Kaylor hit a three-pointer with 5:00 remaining to pull Penn within a single point, but that is as close as they would come as the Pacers made seven of eight free throw attempts down the stretch to secure the victory.
Medici finished with a game high 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Anderson added 17 points and 11 rebounds. Tyler Anderson (Highlands, NJ) added 14 points for the Pacers, including four key three-pointers in the second half. Marywood finished the evening 41.4 percent from the floor and 30.4 percent from beyond the arc.
The Wildcats were led by Flint's 18-point, seven rebound effort. Kaylor finished with 16 points for Penn, who shot 42.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range.
The Pacers will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Radnor, PA to take on Cabrini College in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference contest set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
