Dallas, PA – Amy Hughes scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Misericordia University women's basketball team to a 50-39 win over Marywood Monday night at the Anderson Center. The Cougars won their sixth straight game to improve to 12-5 overall and 8-1 in the PAC, while the Pacers see their record slide to 11-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
Misericordia built a 10-point lead in the first half, but Marywood rallied to pull within one, 26-25, early in the second half.
After trading baskets over the next five minutes, Misericordia held a 32-31 lead with 10:24 remaining and held the Pacers to just eight points the rest of the way.
Hughes, who set a new Misericordia single-game record with 12 free-throws, converted seven free-throws over the final two minutes to seal the win. The Cougars went to the line a remarkable 46 times during the game compared to just six attempts for the Pacers.
Lacey DeGraw and Ericka Morrison added 12 points each for the Cougars, who shot 31 percent from the floor and hit 65 percent of their free-throws.
Caity Hadzimichalis (Harmony, NJ) was the only Pacer to hit double-digits, tossing in 10 points in the losing effort. Maggie Farrell (Telford, PA) added eight points for Marywood, who shot 35 percent from the floor, but made just one of 12 attempts from three point range.
The Pacers will return to action on Thursday evening when they host Alvernia College in a conference tilt scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
