Marywood Rallies for Win Over Blue Knights

Newburgh, NY – Down two sets to none and on the heels of being trounced in the second set, 25-11, the Marywood University women's volleyball rallied to win the final three sets and defeat Mount Saint Mary College in non-conference action on Monday evening. The Pacers won their third straight match and improved to 6-10 overall while the Blue Knights dropped to 5-14.

Mount Saint Mary opened the match with a 25-20 victory in set one and then cruised to a 25-11 triumph in the second set. The Pacers would not quit though, responding with a 25-21 win in set three and a 25-20 win in set four. In the final set, the Pacers slowly edged away from the Mount, eventually taking the decider by a score of 15-9.

Marywood junior Taryn Borden (Bridgewater, N.J.) led her team with eight kills and also collected thirteen digs. Senior Natasha Freethy (Honesdale, Pa.) led the team in digs with fifteen while freshman Kim Lope (Clifton, N.J.) also added in thirteen digs. Lope and Borden tied for a team-high four aces.

Mount Saint Mary freshman Courtney Kenney (Hicksville, N.Y.) led the way with nine kills. Senior Amanda Perry (Norwich, N.Y.) tallied a team-high twenty digs. Junior Melissa Ribeiro (Yonkers, N.Y.) had nine aces to go along with eight digs.

Marywood will enjoy more than a week off before returning to the court next Wednesday evening when they host Baptist Bible College in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference match scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
