Scranton, PA - Marywood University improved to 7-1 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action and remained in a second-place tie with Cabrini College heading into next week's CSAC team championships with an important 6-3 win over Cedar Crest College Friday afternoon in Scranton. The Pacers improved to 8-3 overall while the Falcons fall to 9-7 (5-4 CSAC).

Marywood's one-doubles team of Ryann Null (Williamsport, PA) and Jodi Balch (Matamoras, PA) improved to 7-2 (5-1 CSAC) on the year with a 8-1 win over Cedar Crest's Maria Mallery (Vestal, NY) and Alexandria Kuebler (Washington, NJ). The Pacers then picked up two more points that would prove to be the difference makers in the match as Ashley Karli (Blandon, PA) teammed with Aubrey Klesh (West Hazleton, PA) for an 8-0 win at 2-doubles and Beth Schneider (Port Jervis, NY) and partner Morgan Fereck (Duryea, PA) outlasted the Falcons' team of Amy Dichter (Woodbury, NJ) and Sarah Schopf (Breiningsville, PA), 8-5.

The Pacer and Falcons split singles action 3-3, with Mallery topping Null at 1-singles in a three-set tie-breaker 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2). Marywood's Karli and Balch picked up wins at two and three singles, respectively, while Amy Doot (Hawthorne, PA) won a two-set marathon match 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 over Dichter.

Cabrini holds a tie-breaker by virtue of a 9-0 win over Marywood earlier in the year, but the Pacers still have two matches remaining, as do the Cavaliers and current top-seed Gwynedd-Mercy College. Marywood returns to action next Tuesday as the Pacers face the unbeaten Griffins from Gwynedd-Mercy at 4:00 pm in Scranton.
