Scranton, PA - Visiting Neuman College made the most of their two first-half scoring opportunities with goals from Melissa Malick and Lauren Hood and the visiting Knights added a second half goal en route to a 3-0 win over Marywood University in a key CSAC field hockey battle Tuesday afternoon in Scranton. Both teams entered the game with identical 4-1 conference records and in a tie for second place, but it was the visitors who got their fifth CSAC win of the season despite being outshot 13-6 on the day.

Malick made the most of her one shot on the day just 1:36 into the contest when the freshman dribbled through the Marywood defense and buried a shot in the back of the goal from just inside the arc to put the visitors up 1-0. Despite Marywood edging Neumann in shots in the first half by a 6-2 count, the Knights went into the break with a 2-0 advantage after Hood scored at the 11:57 mark in nearly identical fashion as Malick's goal.

Rachael DiCiccio scored off a rebound from Kerry Sinclair's shot with just under five minutes left to put the Knights up 3-0. Marywood held a 13-6 advantage in shots and a 14-2 advantage in penalty corners, but missed their best opportunity of the day after Caitlin Hadzimichalis' (Harmony, NJ) penalty stroke with under five minutes left sailed high and wide of the goal.

Jordan Haviland made seven saves to preserve the shutout in goal for the Knights, who improved to 6-10 overall on the year. Marywood, now 7-6 (4-2 CSAC) got two saves from Jennifer Miller (Hawley, PA). The Pacers return to action this Saturday when they visit the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore, MD for a 12:00 pm CSAC game.
