BOX SCORE

Scranton, PA – Visiting Marywood University scored a goal in each half and used a strong defensive effort to record a 2-0 victory over Centenary College in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference game on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Pacers improve to 9-5 on the season and 3-2 in conference play while the Cyclones fall to 8-5-1 overall and 2-2 in the CSAC.

Centenary pressured Marywood's defense early in the first half and nearly got on the board first when Chris Guadagno flicked on a long throw, but Marywood goalkeeper Jared El-Gayeh (Baldwin, NY) was able to make the one-handed diving save to keep the score tied at zero.

In the 26th minute, Marywood got a break as Anthony Roma (Endicott, NY) drew a foul inside the Cyclones' box which resulted in a penalty kick. Roma stepped up to the line and made no mistake, burying his shot into the side netting to give Marywood a 1-0 lead that the Pacers would take into halftime despite being out-shot 7-3 in the opening stanza.

The two teams traded chances over the first fifteen minutes of the second half, but Marywood was able to gain some breathing room in the 62nd minute when Brett Megee (Easton, PA) scored to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Sean O'Day (Edwardsville, PA) launched a long throw-in into the penalty area that Megee flicked in past Cyclones' goalkeeper Damien DiBuono for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

From there, the Pacers defense held firm and El-Gayeh tipped a rocket of a free kick from Centenary's Chris Hill over the crossbar in the 81st minute to preserve his third, and Marywood's fourth, shutout of the season.

Centenary finished the afternoon with a slim 12-11 edge in shots and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

El-Gayeh finished with five saves to earn his sixth win of the season while DiBuono took the loss despite turning aside four shots from the Pacers.

Marywood will return to action on Saturday when they visit Immaculata University for a pivotal CSAC match-up slated to kickoff at 3:00 p.m.
