Box Score

Hackettstown, NJ - Freshman Tayler Simmons converted on a late first-half penalty kick and junior captain Claudia Mazza added an insurance goal midway through the second half as visiting Marywood remained perfect in Colonial States Athletic Conference action with a 2-0 win over host Centenary College Wednesday afternoon in Hackettstown, New Jersey. Marywood improved to 10-4-1 (7-0 CSAC) and remains alone atop CSAC standings with the win while the Cyclones fell to 5-7-1, 4-2 CSAC).

After a back-and-forth opening half with neither team generating dangerous threats, Marywood broke onto the board at the 43:08 mark of the first half when freshman Caitlin Light (Annville, PA) was taken down in the Centenary penalty box and Simmons (Hopewell Junction, NY) converted the ensuing penalty kick. The score would remain that way until midway through the second half when Mazza (Binghamton, NY) scored her fourth goal of the year on a 30-yard long ball over the top of Centenary keeper Ashley Denti's head. From there, the Marywood defense and sophomore keeper Meghan Coyle (Endicott, NY) preserved the shut-out.

Coyle made five saves on the day to register her seventh clean slate of the season. The Marywood defense has collected all seven shutouts in the last eight games and have only allowed one goal in CSAC play this season. Denti made two stops in goal for the Cyclones.

Marywood returns to action Saturday with another important CSAC match-up as the Pacers host Cabrini College at 1:00 pm as part of homecoming.
