Gwynedd Valley, PA – Visiting Marywood University won the decisive fifth game 15-7 to take a 3-2 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy College in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference match on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Pacers improved to 7-12 on the season and evened their CSAC record at 4-4 to remain in the middle of the hunt for a conference playoff berth.
The Griffins, now 4-17 on the year and 3-6 in the conference, took the opening set by a 25-18 score. Marywood evened the match with a slim 25-23 decision in game two before taking a two games to one lead with a 25-16 win in the third game.
Not willing to go down without a fight, Gwynedd-Mercy forced the decisive fifth game with a 25-22 victory in the fourth game. However, Marywood prevail with a 15-7 win in game five to bring home the victory.
Emily Fillman (Clarion, PA) led the Pacers with10 kills. Riona Corr (Somersworth, NH) and Taryn Borden (Bridgewater, NJ) each contributed 13 digs, while Corr added 26 assists to help lift Marywood to the key win.
Marywood will return to action this Saturday when they travel to Newark, NJ for a non-conference tri-match with Rutgers-Newark and Manhattanville. The Pacers will battle the Scarlet Raiders at 11:00 a.m. before taking on the Valiants at 1:00 p.m.
