Gwynedd Valley, PA - Marywood University got two goals early in the second half and held off a Gwynedd-Mercy College comeback attempt as the visiting Pacers topped the host Griffins 3-2 in CSAC field hockey action Sunday afternoon in Gwynedd-Valley. The important conference win puts the Pacers at 2-1 in CSAC play (4-5 overall), while Gwynedd was handed their first conference loss of the season and now stands at 5-7 (3-1 CSAC).

Marywood grabbed a 1-0 lead just before halftime as Nicole Siddall (Goshen, CT) scored with 1:27 left in the opening period on an unassisted tally, her second goal of the year. Gwynedd responded quickly after haltime, tying up the contest just under seven minutes into the second half on Dottie O'Neil's unassisted goal. Marywood went back up 2-1 with a goal nearly two minutes later as Emily Wentzel (East Earl, PA) scored on a Mary Potorski (Bear Creek, PA) and senior captain Caitlin Hadzimichalis (Harmony, NJ) gave the Pacers a two-goal cushion 13-minutes later on a penalty stroke.

Hadzimichalis' insurance goal would prove to be the game-winner as Gwynedd scored wtih just over 7:30 to play to make it 3-2. Jennifer Miller picked up the win in goal for the Pacers after making three saves on eight Griffin shots.

Hadzimichalis also helped preserve the Pacers' win with a defensive save, her team-leading fourth of the season.  Marywood returns to action Monday when the Pacers visit Albright College in Reading for a 4:00 pm non-conference match-up.
