Pacers Fall to Richard Stockton in Season Debut

Newburgh, NY - Senior Prince Blacknall had a team-high 15 points and newcomer Sidney Tharpe added 12 points for Marywood but  it was not enough as the Pacers fell to Richard Stockton College 97-69 in the opening game of the Mount Saint Mary's College Tournament Saturday afternoon in Newburgh.  The Pacers will square off against Berkeley College Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm in the consolation game while the Ospreys will meet the tournament hosts in the 3:00 pm championship game.

Richard Stockton, a 2008 NCAA Tournament qualifier, raced out to a 21-point halftime lead, outscoring Marywood 53-32 in the opening stanza.  The Ospreys hit an amazing 76.7% of their shots from the field in the opening half, dropping 23 of 30 attempts.  They added a 66.7% performance from 3-point land in the first-half, going 6 of 9 from behind the arc.  The Pacers, meanwhile, were equally impressive from the floor, hitting 60.9% of their shots in the opening half but the Stockton defense limited Marywood to just 23 attempts. 

In a closer second-half, Richard Stockton outscored the Pacers 44-37.  They again came out hot from the floor, going 18 of 31 (58.1%) while Marywood hit only 33.3% of their attempts (13 of 39).

All five starters for the Ospreys landed in double-figures by the end of the night, led by game-high 16-point performances from Kai Massaquoi and Chad Davis. 

Blacknall (Stroudsburg, PA) went 6 of 13 from the floor and 2 of 5 from 3-point land for the Pacers, leading the team with 15 points in 32 minutes of action.  Tharpe (Victorville, CA) added 12 points in just 19 minutes of action.  The  Pacers (0-1) out-rebounded Richard Stockton by a 35-26 margin, including an impressive 19-8 advantage in offensive boards.
