Scranton, PA – Marywood University built a commanding 30-6 lead over the opening ten minutes of Friday evening's season-opening game against Penn State-Hazleton and never looked back on their way to a 75-30 win over the Lady Lions. With the win, the Pacers advance to the championship game of the Coca-Cola Tip-Off Tournament where they will face Goucher College, a 50-38 winner over John Jay College earlier in the evening.

Marywood took control early in the game with a strong defensive effort and balanced scoring. The Pacers forced Penn State-Hazleton to turn the ball over 23 times in the opening half while limiting the Lady Lions to hitting just 19 percent of their shots in the half. Nine different Pacers scored points as Marywood took a 43-14 lead into the locker room.

The hosts continued to control the tempo when the game resumed and it took nearly 10 minutes before the Lady Lions were able to score their first points of the second half. Marywood would go on to finish the game with a 65-35 advantage in rebounds.

Amanda Lass (Brackney, PA) led all scorers with 16 points and finished one rebound shy of a double-double after pulling down nine boards. Maggie Farrell (Telford, PA) netted 14 points for the Pacers and freshman Mariah Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) tallied 13 points in her collegiate debut.

Catherine Beach (Hazleton, PA) led the Lady Lions with eight points and nine rebounds. The freshman forward also dished out four assists for Penn State-Hazleton, who shot 71 percent from the free throw line, connecting on 12 of 17 attempts from the charity stripe.

In the opening game, Goucher College built a 36-19 halftime lead and held on for the 50-38 victory over John Jay College to advance to Saturday's championship game. The Gophers, now 2-0 on the young season, got a double-double from Amber Smith (Baltimore, MD) who had a game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds. Leia Roberts-Brown (Capitol Heights, MD) added eight points for Goucher, who held the Bloodhounds to hitting just 25 percent of their shots from the floor and forced 27 turnovers.

John Jay was led by Tina Ogunleye's (Islandia, NY) nine points while teammate Parker Griffin (New York, NY) pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds to go along with seven points. Dominique Grice (North Babylon, NY) also contributed seven points for the Bloodhounds, who dropped to 1-1 on the year.

John Jay and Penn State-Hazleton will play in Saturday's consolation game at 1:00 p.m. at Marywood's Insalaco Arena, while Marywood will meet Goucher in the championship game scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
