BOX SCORE

Scranton, PA – Marywood University had its four-game winning streak snapped as visiting Misericordia University notched a 91-69 victory in non-conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Marywood's Insalaco Arena. With the win, the Cougars avenged a 61-58 loss to the Pacers a week ago in the championship game of the Laurel Line Tournament and improved to 4-2 on the season, while the Pacers see their record slide to 4-2.

Misericordia opened the game by connecting on eight of their first nine field goal attempts and lead by as many as 10 points over the first ten minutes of Saturday's game. Marywood cut the visitors lead to 22-18 on a Lester Owens (Manalapan, NJ) lay-up with 9:20 remaining on the opening stanza.

The Cougars responded with a 21-2 run over the next 5:38 to build a 46-20 lead and would go into halftime with a 19-point cushion as the Pacers closed the half with seven straight points.

Misericorida, who shot a solid 62 percent from the floor in the first half, placed three players in double-digits in the opening stanza, led by Robbie Johnson's 15 points. Marywood struggled offensively in the period, connecting on just 10 of their 32 field goal attempts.

The Cougars stretched their lead to game-high 26 on a Dom Del Prete lay-up with 15:25 remaining in the second half, but Marywood kept battling and were able to whittle Misericorida's lead to 12 at 78-66 when Sidney Tharpe (Victorville, CA) converted a lay-up with 3:38 to play forcing the Cougars to call a time-out.

Any hopes of a Pacers' comeback were quickly dashed when play resumed as Misericordia rattled of the next seven points to put the game out of reach.

The Cougars, who finished the game shooting 58 percent from the floor and 89 percent from the free throw line, were led by Johnson's 23 points. Ethan Eichhorst finished a rebound shy of a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. Vinny Baumunk (18 points) and Del Prete (11 points) also hit double-digits for the visitors, who held a commanding 43-29 advantage in rebounds.

The Pacers finished the day shooting just 32 percent from floor despite connecting on 18 of 20 attempts from the charity stripe. Tharpe tied Johnson for a game-high with 23 points while Owens finished with 15 points. Prince Blacknall (Stroudsburg, PA) scored 13 points while dishing out a team-best three assists.

Marywood will open the conference portion of their schedule on Monday when they travel to Hackettstown, NJ to take on Centenary College. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
