BOX SCORE

Scranton, PA – Despite leading for nearly three-quarters of Wednesday's evening's non-conference women's basketball match-up against Elizabethtown College, Marywood University suffered a 62-53 loss as the Blue Jays rallied to come away with the nine-point victory. The Pacers' second straight loss drops them to 3-2 on the season while Elizabethtown improves to 4-3.

Marywood opened the game with a 12-3 run highlighted by 10 points from center Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA). The Pacers would extend their lead to 18-8 on a Mariah Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) jumper with 9:46 to play in the opening half.

The Pacers defense was strong in the opening stanza, limiting Elizabethtown to just 25 percent shooting from the floor, but a three-pointer by the Blue Jays' Stephanie Ellwood with just nine seconds to play in the half cut Marywood's lead to 24-20 as the team's headed to break.

Jenn Montague brought the visitors to within two by converting a lay-up 16 seconds into the second half, but Marywood would stretch its lead to nine at 34-25 with 15:15 to play on a Stephanie Fusaro (Bala Cynwyd, PA) field goal.

Elizabethtown came back strong with a 16-4 run over the next nine and a half minutes and would take over the lead with 6:10 to play when Megan Strohman converted a pair of free throws to give the Blue Jays a 40-38 lead.

The Blue Jays would stretch their lead to as many as nine points (53-44) with 2:14 to play on a Montague free throw.

Marywood was able to narrow their deficit to 55-51 after Marielle Thorsen (Belvidere, NJ) drained a three-pointer and Green followed up by converting one of two free throws with 1:10 to play, but that was as close as the Pacers would come as the team suffered its second straight defeat.

Elizabethtown, who shot 44 percent from the floor in the second half, was led by Montague's double-double on 13 points and10 rebounds. Megan Romano added 12 points and four assists and Strohman netted 11 points. Courtney Kofeldt was the fourth Blue Jay to hit double-digits after scoring 10 points including a perfect four-for-four from the line down the stretch.

Marywood's Green led all scorers with 23 points, matching her career-high which she established in Monday's loss to Centenary College. The junior also pulled down a team-best eight rebounds. Caitlin Hadzimichalis (Harmony, NJ) netted eight points while Thorsen dished out a game-high five assists for the Pacers, who shot just 24 percent from the floor in the second half.

The Pacers will return to action next Monday looking to level their conference record with a CSAC game at Immaculata University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
