Immaculata, PA – Marywood University's women's basketball team suffered its third-straight defeat as the Pacers dropped a 72-52 decision to Immaculata University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Monday night. After the starting the season 3-0, Marywood sees its record slip to 3-3 on the season and 0-2 in conference play while the Mighty Macs improve 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the CSAC.
The visiting Pacers took a 5-4 lead just over five and a half minutes into the Monday evening's game on an Amanda Lass (Brackney, PA) lay-up, but Immaculata's Rachel Denis responded with a three-pointer to put the Mighty Macs back on top.
Marywood's Marielle Thorsen (Belvidere, NJ) responded with a three-pointer of her own to put the Pacers back in front with 13:05 to play in the opening half. The visitors would stretch their lead to as many as five points at 14-9 with 9:52 remaining after Thorsen canned another shot from beyond the arc.
The Mighty Macs would use a 12-0 run to reclaim the lead with 5:41 to play in the half when Dominique Murray made a jumper to put the hosts ahead 20-18. Immaculata would stretch their lead over the remainder of the stanza and went into halftime with a 31-24 lead.
The hosts opened the second half with a 6-0 run to build a 13-point lead two minutes into the second frame. Marywood would chip away at the deficit and scored six unanswered points of their own midway through the period to draw with in seven points at 45-38 as Stephanie Fusaro (Bala Cynwyd, PA) converted a pair of free throws.
Marywood was unable to draw any closer though, as the Mighty Macs would extend their lead over the final 10 minutes of the contest on their way to the victory. Immaculata shot a blistering 72 percent from the floor in the second half.
Fusaro finished the evening with game-highs 21 points and nine rebounds for Marywood, who shot just 28 percent from the floor for the game. Thorsen was the only other to reach double-digits as the freshman finished the evening with 11 points.
Immaculata was led by Kelly Brown's 20 points. Brown shot a perfect six for six from the floor and eight of eight from the charity stripe. Kasey Hicks netted 14 points for the Mighty Macs, while Murray contributed 11 points.
Marywood will return home on Friday, December 19th for a non-conference game against Delaware Valley College. Tip-off in the Insalaco Arena is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
