Scranton, PA – Amanda Lass scored a game-high 25 points to lead Marywood past visiting College of Notre Dame 77-61 in a PAC game Saturday afternoon in the Insalaco Arena. With the win, the Pacers snapped a seven-game losing streak and improved their record to 12-11 overall and 5-10 in the conference while the Gators see their record fall to 6-18 and 3-12 in the PAC.
Wearing pink socks and warm-ups to coincide with the WBCA's “Think Pink” program, the Pacers raced out to a 19-4 lead at the 14:21 mark of the first half following Stephanie Fusaro's (Bala Cynwyd, PA) three-pointer. However, the Gators would chip away at Marywood's lead and brought the game to within a single point at 35-34 at halftime.
Lass (Brackney, PA) led all scorers with 13 points and 7 rebounds in the opening stanza for the Pacers, while Notre Dame was paced by Kierra Scott's 10 points.
Following a halftime ceremony honoring 2008 Marywood University Hall of Fame inductees Michael Insalaco, Rose (Kuchwara) Jacklinski and Jesse (Fries) Munley, the Pacers opened the second half with a 12-2 run over the period's first four minutes to build a 47-36 lead with 16:10 remaining.
The visitors again sought to rally and narrowed Marywood's lead to 58-52 on Briana Grap's lay-up with 6:41 to play, but the Pacers would pull away the rest of the game, hitting 13 of 15 free throws to put the game out of reach.
Lass recorded a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds. The sophomore forward hit 11 of 12 free throws and recorded four steals in the victory. Bryanne Unger (Tower City, PA) finished the afternoon with 14 points, while Fusaro netted 12 for the Pacers, who shot 38 percent from the floor, but were 82 percent from the free throw line, hitting 32 of 39 attempts.
Notre Dame was led by Sasha Matthew who registered 20 points, while Grap finished the game with 15 points. Kierra Scott also hit double-figures with 13 points while dishing out a game-high three assists.
Marywood, who honored their lone senior, Deidre Gill prior to the game, held a 40-30 edge in rebounds while also holding a 13-4 edge in steals.
The Pacers will return to action on Monday evening when they travel to Reading, PA to take on Alvernia College in PAC match-up that will tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
