Misericordia Rolls Past Marywood, 78-57

Scranton, PA –  Misericordia started the final Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men's basketball game between the Cougars and the Pacers with 10 straight points and never looked back as the visitors secured a 78-57 victory over Marywood Monday night at the Insalaco Arena.  With the win, the Misericordia improved to 13-6 overall and 7-3 in the conference while the Pacers fell to 6-13 and remained winless in eleven PAC contests.

The Cougars opened the game with a 10-0 run capped by Matt Hornak's three-pointer 3:13 into the game.  Misericordia would stretch its lead to 17 points before Marywood went on a 7-0 run to narrow the score to 29-19 with 6:30 to play in the half.  However, the Cougars outscored the Pacers 14-3 to take a 43-22 lead into the locker room.

Karl Anderson (Northampton, PA) led all scorers with 12 first-half points for the Pacers, who turned the ball over 12 times in the period compared to just two giveaways by the Cougars, who were paced by Hornak's 10 points in the opening stanza.

Marywood was able to trim the Cougars' lead to 13 points with a 9-1 run in the second half as L.B. Feduchak (Hop Bottom, PA) connected on four consecutive free-throws to make the score 51-38 with 12:10 to play, and again with 6:39 to play following a Joshua Pena (New York City, NY) three-pointer, but the Pacers could draw no closer as Misericordia stretched its lead to as many as 23 points in the closing minutes.

Misericordia's Vinny Baumunk led all scorers with 19 points, while teammate Ryan Roa added 11 points and 4 assists.  Hornak finished the evening with 10 points and a team-high seven assists for the Cougars, who shot 50 percent from the floor and 44 percent from three-point range.

Anderson led Marywood with 14 points, while Matthew Medici (Princeton Junction, NJ) added 12 points and seven rebounds.  Pena finished the evening with 10 points and four assists for the Pacers, who finished the night shooting 39 percent from the floor and 28 percent from beyond the arc.  Marywood was solid from the free-throw line, hitting 12 of 14 attempts.

The Pacers will return to action on Thursday evening when they host Centenary College in a PAC game scheduled to tip-off at 8:00 p.m.
