Ft. Pierce, FL - Marywood University could not contain Division II Nyack College (NY) in the opener and fell just short in their bid for an upset as the Pacers fell to Nyack 10-2 and 11-10 in spring break softball action Saturday evening in Ft. Pierce, Florida.  Marywood dropped their third straight and stands at 5-3 on the year after opening 5-0.

In the opener, Erika Cook (Wyalusing, PA) continued her solid performance at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI.  Colleen Regan (Endwell, NY) went 2-2 with a run scored.  Mallory Gable (1-1) took the loss on the mound for Marywood.  Gable (Hughestown, PA) pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out two.  Lauren Bianchetti (Highland Mills, NY) came on in relief, pitching 2 2/3 innings and allowing seven runs on eight hits while striking out two.

In the nightcap, Marywood's bats were awake but it was not enough as the Pacers fell 11-10.  Lauren Monaco (Carle Place, NY) fell to 2-1 on the year on the mound for Marywood as the sophomore went four innings, allowing 11 runs on eight hits while striking out two.  Nikki Belles (Rome, PA) came on in relief and pitched the final two innings, striking out two while allowing just one hit.

Cook belted her second homer of the year, a two-run blast in the fourth that gave Marywood a brief 5-4 lead.  Cook finished the day 2-4 at the plate with 3 RBI.  Brittany Davis (Scranton, PA) was 3-4 with three RBI, while Megan Haikes continued her solid performance at the plate with a three-run homer in the sixth.  Haikes was 2-4 with two runs and three RBI and also had a triple on the day. 

Marywood returns to action Monday when they take on NAIA foe Fisher College from Massachusetts.  First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am.  The Pacers will then take on Grinnell College of Iowa at 1:00 pm.
