Scranton, PA - Misericordia University pounded out 14 hits in the opener but needed extra innings in the nightcap as the visiting Cougars topped host Marywood 12-0 and 5-4 in PAC softball action Wednesday afternoon in Scranton.  The wins put Misericordia at 7-5 (2-0 PAC) while Marywood falls to 8-6 (0-2 PAC).

Katherine Lucenti picked up the win on the mound for the Cougars in both games.  In the opener, Lucenti allowed just two hits over five innings of work while striking out two.  In the nightcap, Lucenti came on in relief and picked up the win after a save opportunity went by the way-side.

In the opener, Misericordia jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third after taking advantage of five Marywood errors on the day.  Three runs came on a two-error play.  The Cougars would later pound out eight runs in the fifth, highlighted by Katie Eiden's three-run blast to right-center.

Lauren Monaco (Carle Place, NY) fell to 3-2 on the year for Marywood after allowing 12 runs (five earned) on 14 hits.  Kim Flanagan (Monroe, NY) and Miranda Sorber (Hunlock Creek, PA) were the only Pacers to manage a hit in the opener.

In the nightcap, Misericordia jumped out to and early 3-0 lead but needed extra frames to pull out the 5-4 win.  With the Cougars up 3-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, Marywood rallied and tied the game on a Megan Haikes (Scranton, PA) single to center.  Lucenti would help her own cause in the top half of the eighth with a 2-RBI double to left center to score the eventual game-winning runs.  Down 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Marywood stole home to bring the game to 5-4 but left a runner stranded at third as Lucenti struck out the last Marywood batter to seal the win.

Erika Cook (Wyalusing, PA) went 2-3 in the nightcap to lead Marywood while Haikes was 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Mallory Gable (Hughestown, PA) went the distance on the mound for the Pacers, striking out five over eight innings of work.

Lucenti struck out three over two innings for Marywood, while starter Katie Eiden went four innings and allowed one run on three hits and struck out three.  Molly Martin struck out one over two innings of work for Misericordia.  Nicole Hoskins was 2-4 the plate with an RBI and a run scored, while Courtney Novajosky was 2-4 with two RBIs.

Marywood returns to action Friday as the Pacers host Alvernia College at 3:00 pm.
